What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are gaining popularity for a variety of conditions, such hair loss treatment uses a patient’s own blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area. Because the treatments use a patient’s own tissues, PRP injections are safe and can be administered alone or used in conjunction with other procedures.

The treatment is also a very effective solution in treating male or female pattern baldness, thinning hair & hair loss. If intervention is adopted at the first signs of hair loss, the treatment can prevent and promote new stronger hair growth.

PRP can also aid in the stimulation of a more robust follicle & promote hair growth after hair transplant surgery.

PRP Therapy FAQs

What is PRP therapy and how does it work?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentration of your own blood platelets — rich in growth factors — to stimulate healing, collagen production, and cellular regeneration. A small amount of blood is drawn, processed in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, and then reintroduced into the skin or scalp. Because it uses your own biology, the risk of allergic reaction is virtually zero.

What can PRP treat at Crystalline Clinic?

PRP is used for facial rejuvenation (often called a vampire facial), skin texture improvement, under-eye rejuvenation, hair loss and thinning (both male pattern and female diffuse hair loss), scalp health, and to support healing after other aesthetic treatments. It’s a versatile regenerative treatment with genuine clinical evidence behind its effectiveness.

What results can I expect from PRP facial treatment?

PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production, improving skin firmness, texture, and tone over time. Clients typically notice their skin looks more hydrated, radiant, and smoother after a course of treatments. Fine lines are softened, pores appear refined, and skin quality improves overall. Results are natural-looking and build progressively — you look better over time, not suddenly different.

How many PRP sessions do I need?

For facial rejuvenation, a course of 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended, followed by annual maintenance. For hair loss, 3–4 initial sessions at monthly intervals, followed by maintenance every 3–6 months, provides the best outcomes. Results are cumulative — each session builds on the last.

When will I see results from PRP?

PRP works by triggering your body’s regenerative processes, so results develop gradually rather than immediately. Most clients notice initial improvements in skin quality within 2–4 weeks of their first session, with more significant improvements apparent after completing a course of treatments over 3 months. Hair loss results may take 3–6 months to become clearly visible.

How long do PRP results last?

The collagen stimulation triggered by PRP can produce improvements that last 12–18 months after a full course of treatment. Hair loss results are maintained with top-up sessions every 6 months. Annual maintenance facial PRP sessions keep the skin in an optimally rejuvenated state. Results are gradual and natural — not dramatic — which also means they age gracefully.

Does PRP hurt?

The blood draw is minimal — a small vial from the inner arm, the same as a routine blood test. For facial PRP, the skin is numbed with topical anaesthetic cream before the injections or microneedling. For scalp PRP, numbing cream or local anaesthetic can be used to manage any discomfort. The treatment is well tolerated by the vast majority of clients.

What is the downtime after PRP treatment?

Facial PRP may cause redness, mild swelling, and pinpoint bruising for 24–48 hours, depending on the delivery method used. Scalp PRP typically causes minimal downtime. We advise avoiding makeup, active skincare, saunas, and vigorous exercise for 24 hours after facial PRP. Most clients can return to normal activities the following day.

Is PRP safe?

PRP is extremely safe because it uses your own blood components, making the risk of allergic reaction or rejection essentially zero. The main risks are those associated with the injection process itself — bruising, infection (rare with proper sterile technique), or mild discomfort. It’s one of the most biocompatible treatments available in aesthetic medicine.

Can PRP actually grow hair back?

PRP has strong clinical evidence for improving hair density and reducing hair loss, particularly in the early to moderate stages of androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair thinning). It won’t regrow hair in areas where follicles have been completely dormant for years, but it can significantly slow loss and improve the quality and density of existing hair. A realistic assessment of your hair loss stage is essential before beginning treatment.

Is PRP the same as a ‘vampire facial’?

The ‘vampire facial’ popularised in the media is a form of PRP combined with microneedling — the PRP is applied topically or injected after microneedling to enhance penetration and results. At Crystalline Clinic, we offer this combined approach as well as standalone PRP injections, selecting the most appropriate delivery method for your specific concern.

Can I wear makeup after PRP?

We recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours after facial PRP treatment. The tiny injection points or microneedling channels are temporarily open and applying makeup too soon could introduce bacteria or irritants. After 24 hours, normal skincare and makeup routines can resume.

Who is not suitable for PRP therapy?

PRP is not suitable for those with blood clotting disorders, active infections, cancer, or certain autoimmune conditions. Those on blood thinners should inform us before booking. Pregnancy is also a contraindication. A full medical history will be taken at consultation to confirm suitability.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Yes — PRP combines particularly well with microneedling, the CC Glow Protocol, skin boosters, and as a supportive treatment alongside anti-wrinkle injections or fillers. For hair loss, it can complement other medical therapies. We’ll recommend the most effective combination protocol for your goals.
